The 2022 Major League Baseball (MLB) season concluded having provided many memorable moments. From Yankees outfielder Aaron Judge topping Roger Maris’ legendary single-season home run mark for an American Leaguer to the rejuvenated future Hall of Fame Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols joining the 700 home run club for his career. The Los Angeles Dodgers achieved a franchise-best 111 regular-season wins while the defending world champion Atlanta Braves swept the formerly-dominant New York Mets on the final weekend of the season to help capture the NL East division title.
The arrival of the MLB postseason hopes to bring new memories in this new era of these playoffs where the field of participating teams expanded from 10 to 12 and a new best 2-of-3 Wild Card series was established.
Among the teams playing on Wild Card weekend (Oct. 7-9 on ESPN, ESPN2 and ABC) are: the once-longtime NL East leading New York Mets taking on the San Diego Padres with stars Manny Machado and the newly-acquired Juan Soto; Pujols and the NL Central winning St. Louis Cardinals facing the Philadelphia Phillies who rebounded following the firing of former manager Joe Girardi; the burgeoning Toronto Blue Jays play the Seattle Mariners, who erased a 21-year playoff drought; and, perennial championship contender Tampa Bay Rays versus a young, scarcely-paid Cleveland Guardians squad that won the American League Central division.
Automatically advancing to the Division Series, beginning October 11th, are the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Atlanta Braves, the Houston Astros, and the New York Yankees.
Beginning October 11, American League postseason games will air on either TBS or MLB Netwerk; National League playoff games on Fox or FS1.
The World Series begins Friday, October 28; a potential Game Seven is scheduled for Saturday, November 5. All its games air on the Fox network.
All games aired on MLB Network, TBS, Fox and FS1 will be available to MLB.TV subscribers who are authenticated subscribers to the applicable network through a participating pay TV provider. (Cord cutters will be unable to view the MLB postseason via MLB.TV).
