In the year 2005, he officially joined the Army of the USA and was ranked as a captain. 

He went to Afghanistan and was later on sent to Iraq during the Operation Iraqi Freedom and was given the Bronze Star for his efforts.

At one point, he also worked for McKinsey and Co, while serving one term in the House of Representatives between the Army and the US Senate. 

For his political career, he took part in the 2012 elections, where Thomas defeated two-term Democratic incumbent Mark Pryor to become the United States Representative for Arkansas. He then went on to become a senator for Arkansas at the age of 37 in 2014.
