Food preparation for survival and storage has been the norm throughout human history until the last century, when people began to rely significantly on grocery stores for food. Emergency situations, natural disasters and pandemics have forced many of us to reconsider our reliance on foods produced from other parts of the country and around the world in recent years.There are also many times when you need canned food for survival.   • Chicken:

On the other hand, pre-cooked chicken in pouches or can is acceptable for survival canned food. Pouches are preferred because they are lightweight and produce less waste. Freeze-dried chicken is another alternative. You can either bring a freeze-dried cooked meal or buy freeze-dried chicken breasts to use in your own cooking. These require boiling water to rehydrate, but they are ready in 20 minutes.

  • Turkey:

It can be fun to prepare a turkey meal when you get to camp if you want to store for survival.  Combine precooked turkey, instant turkey gravy, mashed potatoes, and stovetop stuffing mix for a quick and easy meal. However, if you like ready-to-eat foods, this freeze-dried turkey can be an excellent choice.

  • Shelf Stable Meat:

This type of beef is ideal for survival and, in most situations, should be your first choice. You can buy pre-packaged dehydrated meals at most outdoor supply stores or order them from survival food company.

  • Beef:

Jerky is the most convenient way to transport meat. Even in warmer weather, beef jerky is a trail staple that may last up to a year. Keep your jerky in its sealed original package (with the desiccant to absorb moisture). If you produce your own, make sure you get rid of at least 95% of the moisture before vacuum sealing or storing it in an airtight bag.

  • Canned Salmon:

Choose tuna in cans with easy-to-open tabs, or go for tuna or salmon in pouches instead of cans. For extra calories, try fish packaged in olive oil if you have the choice. Pre-seasoned tuna, such as  tomato basil or Thai chill, is also available and makes a tasty snack. With a pasta that cooks in 6 minutes or less, you can make a simple tuna meal.

  • Prosciutto:

Prosciutto is an uncooked, dry-cured ham that can be kept for up to a week in the refrigerator. Wrap your prosciutto in plastic to prevent it from drying out. Try prosciutto with cheese and crackers or prosciutto wrapped dates if you’re on a no-cook hiking trip. As previously said, Parmesan cheese is excellent for backpacking.
