The Tragic Case of Nikki Catsouras’s Death

While high-end gaming PCs might break the bank, you can get a basic level of gaming expertise with the Asus rog FX503 for a reasonable price.

The availability of portable gaming laptops answers this need. A high-powered gaming system allows dedicated players to carry their games wherever they go, and it’s also a must for most competitive and cooperative gaming scenarios. Today, we’ll look at the Asus rog FX503, the newest member of the Taiwanese firm’s gaming-oriented laptop lineup. The FX503 is reviewed, and its price starts at Rs 69,990. Asus rog FX503 Specifications and Design

Designs for gaming laptops often focus less on portability and performance and more on gamer-specific features. The Asus rog FX503 is unlike other productivity laptops since it has a larger screen and a less portable design. Very hefty and cumbersome, it’s too big to fit in my bag. It’s not a lovely laptop, especially if you’re always on the go. However, it is precisely the purpose of gaming laptops. The laptop is heavy and noisy since the components required to process graphics are also necessary, which are substantial. Since many PC games are still distributed only via optical discs, the Asus rog FX503 includes one. The 15.6-inch full-HD display will let you enjoy your games to the fullest.

The Asus rog FX503 boasts a top-notch keyboard, which is par for the course for gaming laptops. The keys have enough travel and provide satisfying tactile feedback, which is essential to an enjoyable gaming experience. The keys are illuminated and strategically placed for ease of use in all lighting situations. Both the placement and illumination of the directional and WASD keys make them easily discernible.

The trackpad, too, is bigger than you’d anticipate, and the heat-dissipating grille is immediately over the keyboard. You may expect to hear a good amount of noise and feel some hot air flowing out of this grille when the laptop’s fans kick into high gear to cool it down after prolonged usage, such as while playing an intense game. Asus rog FX503 graphics card and CPU may be cooled thanks to the dual-fan system and copper heat pipes. The Asus rog FX503 has a high-quality appearance and feels thanks to its refined construction.

The Asus rog FX503 is not part of Asus’s Republic of Gamers brand, which is usually associated with the company’s gaming laptops. This is likely due to the device’s low price, although it includes all the necessary gaming Asus rog FX503 features. You get a 7th generation Intel Core i5 or Core i7 CPU, 8GB of DDR4 RAM that can be upgraded to 32GB, a 2GB or 4GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 graphics card, a 128GB SSD drive for fast booting, and a 1TB SATA drive for enough storage, a four-cell 64Wh battery, and a 15.6-inch display. The Asus FX503 comes with Windows 10 Home. Ideally, this would have been equipped with a CPU from Intel’s 8th generation Core series, but considering the price and the other gear provided, there isn’t much to complain about.

The efficiency of the Asus FX503

While the more expensive model, including a Core i7 CPU and an SSD, is the way to go, your financial constraints will determine your chosen model. The base model costs Rs 69,990 and has a Core i5 CPU but no solid-state drive (SSD); the high-end model costs Rs 87,990 and has a Core i7 processor and 128GB SSD storage in addition to 1TB SATA storage. All configurations are equipped with an NVIDIA GTX 1050 and 8 GB of DDR4 RAM. However, the base model only has 2 GB of dedicated graphics memory.

Because 2GB of graphics RAM and a Core i5 CPU are plenty for most games nowadays, even the base model shouldn’t give you any problem in real gaming. Although specific graphically heavy games may have trouble running, most games should run without a hitch on this setup, making it suitable for casual gamers. Playing even the most demanding games with a decreased visual quality is possible while still having a fun experience.

We tried out the Core i7 version and were pleasantly surprised by how well it performed. During my time with the Asus rog FX503, I experimented with many games, including PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, GRID: Autosport, and Dota 2. At the maximum settings, PUBG worked, but with some missing frames and glitches, lowering the performance settings a little remedied this. I had no issues playing DOTA 2 and GRID: Autosport with their maximum settings for visuals and performance.

Now I’m not much of a player, and my primary purpose for a laptop is work. Granted, a gaming laptop isn’t the most portable. All that power could be wasted if you use it to browse the web, write papers, create presentations, and maybe do some light picture and video editing. But it may make sense if you’re a gamer who also needs a computer for work.

Compared to other gaming laptops, the Asus FX503’s pricing is more in line with regular laptops used for work. Although 8GB of RAM may seem insufficient for a gadget costing Rs 70,000 today, it is readily upgradable owing to Asus’s approach to laptop hardware upgradability. Smooth and dependable in most situations, it doesn’t bog down too much when challenged. The Asus FX503’s hardware prowess makes multitasking a snap, and this is what ultimately propels it through the vast majority of jobs. Also, as was previously noted, it can handle playing most games late at night after a long day at work.

The Asus rog FX503 has a subpar battery life, but that’s to be expected from a gaming laptop. I got a little over three hours off of a single charge when I wasn’t playing games. Even though you should always have your laptop connected to a power source, it’s nice to know that you have the option of using it cordlessly.

Verdict

Contrary to popular belief, the Asus rog FX503 is not the top-tier gaming laptop currently available. However, it’s an option that casual gamers shouldn’t rule out at a price. In my view, a laptop like this is best put to use when its primary purpose isn’t gaming but rather a combination of gaming, productivity, and general purpose usage. Said, the FX503 is a good choice if you’re a night-owl gamer who also has to get some work done during the day. This laptop has more than enough raw hardware capability for everyday work like editing videos and photos, among other uses.

If you’re a dedicated PC gamer, maybe the Asus rog FX503 isn’t the most incredible option. The 2GB and 4GB variants of the NVIDIA GTX 1050 graphics card aren’t the finest on the market, and the GTX 1080 is required for top-notch performance. The FX503 is a good compromise if you aren’t picky about graphics performance or need state-of-the-art technology. To sum it up, if you’re in the market for a cheap gaming laptop right now, you should consider this one seriously.
